A MAN has appeared in court for the first time, charged after police uncovered drugs and a gel blaster in a car stop.

Owen Cook is accused of possessing an unregistered and an unanthorised pistol after the late-night police search.
The silver Volkswagen was stopped by police on the Newell Highway, Moree, at about 11.30pm on Saturday, for a random breath test.
New England police combed the vehicle, seizing what they claim is testosterone and a gel blaster pistol.

The 31-year-old man was taken to Moree police station, where he was questioned and charged with possessing an unregistered pistol; possessing an unauthorised pistol; supplying a prohibited drug; and possessing a prohibited drug.
Cook was granted bail to appear at Moree Local Court, where he had his bail conditions varied.
Magistrate Peter Barnett has ordered Cook to live at the Peabody Mine at Coppabella in Queensland during the week; be of good behaviour; and post $5000 in surety.
Cook did not enter pleas to the charges. Mr Barnett ordered police to compile the brief of evidence and adjourned the case until May.
If found guilty of the charges, Cook faces up to 14 years' imprisonment.
