As events around the region are cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak, Tamworth Regional Council events manager Barry Harley says committees face a "real challenge" over the next 12 months.

"If you have something that has longevity - and people expect it to be in the same place and same calendar period each year - and you don't hold it in that same calendar period the following year, it is always difficult, from a marketing point of view, to actually get those people back," Mr Harley said.
"With something the size of the [Tamworth Country Music] festival, which we were fortunately able to run this year, if you lost a good proportion of that crowd - it would take some years to get them back.

"And the same goes for the smaller events. When you lose that regularity, it's always a much harder task to get them back in the future.
"But we'll all be working very hard with those committees and stakeholders to make sure that wherever we can actually rebuild out of this crisis, it's going to benefit them in the future."
The Nundle Go for Gold Festival and the Nundle Country Picnic are two of the annual events that have been cancelled.
In a statement, the Go for Gold committee said they were committed to bringing the event back in 2021.
"The committee are dedicated to the safety of the community and visitors to our town. We do, however, look forward to a bigger and better festival next year, and also encourage small groups and people looking for a day trip to still come visit Nundle and enjoy what our great town has to offer," it said.
