TWO nasty accidents cast a shadow over the Gunnedah Motorcycle Club's Weeks of Speed event on Saturday.

Paramedics and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were called to the Balcaray Park track after two separate collisions.
The first resulted in the rider suffering broken C-5,C-6 and C-7 vertebrae, while the second accident caused the rider to suffer head and pelvis injuries.

Club president Anthony Dall said the second accident put an end to the night's proceedings.
"It all went a bit pear shaped at the end of the night," Dall said.
"At the end of the day, no one wants to see anybody get injured while their competing.
"However, we have touched base with the families of the riders and from what we can understand, they are doing well.
"Everyone at the club wishes them a speedy recovery."
Dall said until the mishaps, the event had been running smoothly.
"We were about 57 events through our card of 110 events before we had to call it off," he said.
"In the end, we did only get to the start of the third round, so a lot of the winners had to be on points.
"The number of entries we had was fantastic and we did have a great crowd in as well.
"The way the night came to an end was disappointing, but it is just one of those unavoidable things that sometimes happens in this sport."
Riders from all of the region and beyond flocked to the event, in hopes of preparing for this year's junior championships.
"It was really good to see riders, families and fans from all over the place come and get involved," Dall said.
"This event is really starting to gain some traction and a following.
"It was just a shame to end the night on such a serious note.
"However, the whole club is there for the riders during their recoveries and we hope to see them back out on the track soon."
