Gardens in Tamworth's primary schools could become a whole lot greener after a competition for a sustainable gardens kit launched at Tamworth Square on Monday.

The initiative will see shoppers vote for their favourite school using biodegradable tokens.
Tamworth Public School is one of four local schools vying for first place.

Tamworth Public School principal Chris Connor said they would try and bring their vegie patch back to life if they won.
"Kids need to see the alternate ways that we can do things ... producing your own food would be a great way to show them," he said.
When shoppers spend money in Tamworth Square stores between Monday and April 3, they receive a biodegradable token and can use it to 'vote' for their favourite school by scanning the QR code and putting the token in a compost bin outside Coles.
The schools involved are Hillvue, South Tamworth, Westdale and Tamworth public schools.
The contents of the pack, which is valued at $2250, will be decided based on what the winning school needs.
"We believe it is important to foster growing sustainable futures, in turn securing a better tomorrow for all," Tamworth Square centre manager Mitch Phelps said.
