RIDERS from across Australia are set to flock to Tamworth this weekend for Tamworth International Eventing's first event of the year.

Starting on Friday, the three day-event held at the Australian Equine and Livestock Centre (AELEC), will pit riders against each other in a range of disciplines including dressage, showjumping and cross country.
The event is the first international event of the year and the international classes will give professional riders the chance to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics later this year.

Club president Sharmayne Spencer said this year's showcase would mark the 10th time the club has hosted the event.
"The event does cater for all levels of riding starting at 45 centimetres right through to the CCI 4 Class," Spencer said.
"We have children from pony club ranks, mature riders competing for fun, as well as international-level riders, some of whom have previously competed at the Olympics.
"Some of those international riders will be seeking national and international qualification, which is exciting."
Spencer said entry was free for the three-day event and it would offer up "plenty of action" for spectators and competitors alike.
"Eventing comprises dressage, showjumping and cross country, so it is pretty action packed," she said.
"There will be plenty of action across the venue during the weekend, with the cross country phase being the main draw card on Sunday.
"As Tamworth is recognised as a premier venue, there is also a national course for officials being held at the same time, so there really is something for everyone".
The event will be held at AELEC from Friday to Sunday starting at 8.30am each morning and entry is free for spectators.
