A man has been charged and his licence suspended following a crash near Armidale that left a woman in a critical condition.

The crash occurred on Tuesday last week when a black Ford Territory, being driven by a 40-year-old man and carrying a 35-year-old female passenger, was heading north on the New England Highway.
A BMW, driven by a 54-year-old man, was heading south on the same stretch of road when the two cars collided.

The woman suffered two broken legs, a fractured wrist and internal bleeding. She was rushed to Armidale hospital in a critical condition.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked from Tamworth and a medical team on board stabilised the woman before she was flown to the Gold Coast. She was reported to be in a serious but stable condition.
Following investigations, the Northern Tablelands Crash Investigation Unit arrested the driver of the Territory at Armidale Police Station.
He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily. The man's licence was also suspended.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Armidale Local Court on April 6.
