North West rainfall: Gunnedah receives decent falls, severe weather warning issued

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) reported 39mm at Gunnedah airport, Jack Hewitt of Oakleigh Pasture Pork had about 20mm, and in town there were reports of over 50mm as a whole on Sunday.

Mr Hewitt said the rain was the "perfect way to end the week".

Gunnedah and District Historical Society's Marie Hobson said she recorded 40mm after the storm that hit Gunnedah at about 5pm, and then another 10mm on Monday morning after the 3am storm.

Locals were loving the wet stuff, with many a rain dance occurring around town.

With thunderstorms came power outages, and come Monday morning residents in Ghoolendaadi, Goolhi, and the outskirts of Boggabri and Gunnedah were impacted.

Essential Energy reported over 80 customers were without power in these areas, with thousands more impacted across the state.

Facebook page Tamworth Regional Weather admins said Coonabarabran residents saw almost 43mm drop in one hour, with 23mm of that falling in just 12 minutes.

Surrounding areas received a bit more rain, but nowhere near as much as Gunnedah or Coonabarabran.

BOM recorded 6.5mm at Boggabri, 13mm at Mullaley and 12mm at Tambar Springs.

Carroll store only had 4mm, and Curlewis store barely had a drop with just 0.8mm.

Thunderstorms are also likely for the area again on Monday afternoon, with BOM issuing a severe weather warning on Monday morning.

If flash flooding occurs, the SES reminds everyone to not drive through flood water and risk becoming trapped.
