An inland trough combined with moist air over eastern NSW is forecast to bring thunderstorms to large parts of the state.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds in the next several hours.
Armidale, Tamworth and Narrabri will be affected and the State Emergency Service has urged people to move their cars under cover and away from trees.
