Little Quirks to hit Tamworth with big folk sound and new music

Made up of sisters Abbey and Mia, and their cousins Jaymi and Alex, it's the band's first time at the country music festival.

"We're really excited, we've heard so many good things," singer Abbey Toole said.

"I know our parents always wanted to take us, so it's cool we get to play there."

Little Quirks has back-to-back gigs at the Tamworth Hotel on Saturday and Sunday, and are ready to hit fans with new songs off their EP Cover My Eyes, which will be released on Friday.

"We can't wait for everyone to finally hear it, we've been working so hard on it," Abbey said.

"It's mainly folk, but it's a combination of many things.

"I would say it's a spin off of all our influences - a spin off of country, a spin off of rock, it's everything we grew up with and our current interest."

The band has drawn numerous comparisons to folk icons Mumford and Sons, who Abbey admits the band was "very much in awe of".

"We were completely honoured [by the comparison], we are huge fans of them and have been for a long time," she said.

Many couldn't imagine working with their family, let alone being in a band with them, but the Toole family see it as a strength.

"I think it works in our favour," Abbey said.

"We can be completely honest with each other and you have a connection you can't get with friends."

The band's connection is clearly working, with their single Crumbled amassing 2 million streams on Spotify.

In the past year, they've supported big-name artists such as Xavier Rudd, Jack River, Alex The Astronaut and The Teskey Brothers.

Abbey said there were no plans to slow down in 2020, with the band hoping to release more new music and work with other songwriters.

"A big aim of ours is to tour internationally and there could be something in the making for that, which is very exciting," she said.
