On Friday, the two underground fuel storage tanks in the Railway Avenue area in the Duri village were emptied.
Traces of fuel have been found in groundwater in two houses in the street, and on Friday, council staff spent the day doorknocking all properties in the Duri area to determine if anyone else had been impacted.
Council said testing of the tanks will be carried out in the coming days to confirm if they're to blame.

"Further water samples from the contaminated area will be taken next week to determine the extent of the contamination," a council spokesperson said.
"Council continues to advise residents in the area that bore water from the Duri area should not to be consumed and the use of bores should be limited to prevent further contamination."
The fuel contamination was discovered on Sunday after residents reported a fuel smell in their water in Railway Avenue, right in the middle of the village.
The level of contamination that had been detected made it unsafe to drink, council said.
Hazmat, the Environmental Protection Authority and Tamworth council have been investigating the leak.
A survey was launched and testing was carried out on Thursday to determine how far the contamination might have spread. Council is awaiting the results.
Anyone who notices a fuel load or believes they have been contaminated is urged to contact council immediately for testing to be carried out.
