TAMWORTH ushered in a new decade with relatively sedate behaviour as emergency doctors reported no spike in activity on New Year's Eve.

It was business as usual for the Tamworth hospital emergency department for the last day of the year.
Director of nursing and midwifery Michelle Keir said there was 130 presentations to emergency and 20 admissions to hospital on December 31.

"We had 30 ambulances throughout the day, which is a pretty typical day in Tamworth," she said.
"There wasn't any significant trauma or increase in mental health presentations."
Most of the pubs and clubs in Tamworth shut down before midnight keeping antisocial behaviour to a minimum, Ms Keir said.
She said there was a chance New Year's Day could be busier as people "wake up a little more injured than they thought they were".
