The 28-year-old bowled just nine deliveries in the series opener against New Zealand before straining his left hamstring during his run up.
Hazlewood ruled himself out of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, but hasn't ruled out the possibility of playing in the Sydney Test, starting January 3.

Despite the injury, Hazlewood made an impact in Australia's 296-run win over the Blackcaps, claiming the wicket of Jeet Raval.
Affectionately known as the Bendemeer Bullet, Hazlewood was playing in his 50th Test match for Australia before being struck down by the injury.
The injury is Hazlewood's second in two years after he missed Australia's Test series against Sri Lanka last summer due to a back injury.
Either James Pattinson, Peter Siddle or Michael Neser are likely to replace Hazlewood for the Melbourne Test.
