Bundella fatal: Adnan Al Youseff sentenced for accidental shooting of friend

Youssef fronted Judge Sarah Huggett at Sydney Downing Centre on Friday to be sentenced for the accidental manslaughter of his close friend on a hunting trip.

Judge Huggett granted Youseff a 25 per cent discount on his sentence given his early plea of guilty in the case.

As part of his sentence, Youseff must not commit any offences while under the order and can be called to appear before the court at any time during the term of the order.

The order began on Friday and will expire in November 2021.

The 41-year-old fatally shot his family friend when he took a rifle out of his car to clean it and it accidentally discharged on Boxing Day.

It was about 10:30pm when the victim, 23-year-old Ali Wannous was shot at Bundella, near Quirindi.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene but Wannous died not long afterwards.

Oxley Police District detectives then arrested Youseff and charged him with discharging a firearm without regard to public safety, amounting to manslaughter.

The court heard previously that Youseff had struggled to deal with the emotional and financial toll of the Boxing Day tragedy.

His lawyer had his case moved from Tamworth to Sydney, where he lives, in August, in an effort to lower the financial burden.

It's understood the pair were part of a group of eight people who were known to each other.

It's believed the group were visiting the property at Coomoo Coomoo Creek Road on a pre-arranged hunting trip.
