The historic Kable Avenue oval features in the council's comprehensive masterplan and will be upgraded as a "boutique sports field" and a home for large outdoor events.
While the masterplan encompasses a huge patch of land in the Tamworth CBD, it's Number One Oval which could be the first cab off the rank for funding.

There has been no money secured or set aside for the Bicentennial Park plans yet.
But the council's manager of sports and recreation, Paul Kelly, said there was "a lot of little, low-hanging fruit we would be able to tick off in the first 12 months, I'm sure".
Part of the plan includes a proposal to upgrade the existing pavillion.
This would include new change rooms and a more appropriate facility for functions.
The oval has seen a surge in use with the region's Aussie rules' comp adding two Tamworth women's teams in recent years.
The council itself has already acknowledged the change rooms at the ground are inadequate.
Councillors recently voted to fork out for additional marquees to accommodate an upcoming veterans' cricket fixture.
A report to council about the game said the current facilities "do not comfortably house a full sporting team and associated playing equipment."
The state government has $2.6 million program aimed specifically at increasing participation in women's sport, Her Sport Her Way.
