Mitchell was a standout and duly selected to play for the NSW Blues side at the Australian Indoor Hockey Festival to be played in Wollongong in January.
"Ella played so well in a defence role," Giddings said.
"She just always kept her composure."
Even after picking up an injury she continued to perform at the same level.
It was a tough campaign for Mitchell and her Tamworth side in Division 1 - a 2-1 win over northern neighbours New England their best result.
Giddings said their inability to score goals hurt them, the two goals against New England their only for the tournament.

"We lacked a bit up in the striker line," she said.
The other thing that hampered them was their lack of indoor game experience.
"It's a totally different game," Giddings said.
"We need to play games, need to have a competition."
She said there are moves to get a junior competition up and running in first term next year.
Having that regular competition will only improve their skills. They showed that on the weekend.
Giddings said that as they learnt the structure, they got better, with every player improving over the course of the tournament.
She also gave her thanks to Greg Doolan for coming in and helping coach them during the carnival.
