Gunnedah Jockey Club president Kevin Edmunds said "it's set to be a massive day".
"It may have come at short notice, but we are all set for a bumper race day," Edmunds said.
"Cox Plate Day is one of the biggest on the racing calendar and we are really excited to host a meeting of our own.
"We're hopeful we can prove that our club can excel when given the chance to host meetings like this."
Edmunds said the track "should be in top shape" for Saturday's meeting.
"Our track is holding up really well at the moment and preparations are coming along really well on that front," he said.
"It should be a cracker day at the track.
We will be running buses from town out to the track from 12pm, so we hope to see plenty of people there."
