Tamworth residents are being warned their natural gas supply could be disrupted as workers look into a fault in the pipeline.

APA Group, which owns and manages the Central Range Pipeline and Tamworth natural gas distribution network, issued a statement this afternoon.
"APA Group personnel are assessing a supply fault in the Central Ranges Pipeline that has the potential to affect natural gas supply to Tamworth," it said.

"In the event of disruption to supply, APA will advise customers either directly or through the media.
"Major industrial customers have been contacted and a number have voluntarily reduced consumption to help maintain supplies to households.
"As relevant further information becomes available, APA Group will issue further media updates."
