The fire was in the the Leechs Gully area north of Tenterfield.
The fire was spreading quickly, according to the RFS.

At 3.20 on Sunday afternoon the fire crossed Washpool Creek Road
The fire is likely to cross Mount Lindesay Road, and move east towards the Bruxner Highway.
Firefighters are on scene and are being supported by waterbombing aircraft.
Embers will be blown up ahead of the fire, creating spot fires that will move quickly and in different directions.
These spot fires may threaten homes earlier than the predicted main fire front.
Residents in the vicinity of Homestead Road, Washpool Creek Road, Mount Lindesay Road, Bryans Gap Road, Black Swamp Road, Sommerlads Road should seek shelter in a solid structure as the fire approaches.
