A DRIVER has been taken to hospital after a major car crash near Gunnedah in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency crews were called to a single vehicle accident at Carroll at 2.27am, according to Gunnedah's NSW Fire and Rescue unit.
The car had sustained substantial damage when the firies got to the scene.

NSW Ambulance paramedics were treating the driver who remained trapped in their vehicle.
The State Emergency Service (SES) crew on the scene carried out a dramatic rescue after they cut the driver's side door to free the motorist.
The driver was then taken to hospital.
Police, ambos, SES, Rural Fire Service (RFS) and Gunnedah's Fire and Rescue team all assisted in the early morning response.
Hazard reduction burns
Earlier in the weekend, Gunnedah's RFS units carried out hazard reduction burns on Porcupine Hill in a bid to "protect some of the infrastructure from future fires".
