Tamworth City Bowling Club has been the target of a "bizarre" robbery on Thursday night.

Members arrived at the club on Friday morning to discover more than $300 worth of rubber outdoor matting had been stolen from outside the greens keeper's shed.
The matting had been installed to help prevent any of the club's patrons from slipping and falling on the concrete path.
"Over the past week or so, we've had some volunteers working hard to lay some new carpet in our dining room and they were the ones who saw the matting was gone," club president Kerry Walden said.
"It's a pretty brazen thing to do and I can't really understand why anybody would want to take it.
"The most disappointing aspect of it is: these volunteers have been busting their guts to try and make improvements around the club, only to see something like this happen.
"It's enough for you to drop your shoulders a little bit, that's for sure."

Walden said the club was yet to contact police, instead hoping those responsible would return the flooring.
"We do have CCTV all around the club, which I'm sure captured the incident," he said.
"However, we have had stuff like this happen in the past and highlighting it to the public is usually enough to see things returned.
"It's a pretty inconvenient thing for our club, so we are hoping whoever did this will do the right thing and give it back.
"To me, stealing something like this matting is really bizarre and all we can hope is that it makes it way back to us."
In a bid to see the item returned, the club has taken to social media to highlight the incident.
"We have found that going on things like Facebook when this sort of thing happens is quite effective in seeing things returned," Walden said.
"If it doesn't work, we will of course pursue the proper legal channels.
"We just wanted to give whoever did this the chance to do the right thing and return our property, no questions asked."
