Shop Local Tamworth 2019 campaign ready to serve you

More retailers are being invited to take part in the event, which last year accounted for more than $1 million worth of sales to the 103 participating businesses.

The campaign will kick off again today, and another red Honda Jazz is up for grabs.

One store manager who didn't need any convincing to get involved again was Sportscraft's Shonnah Smith.

She said the shop took part last year "just to get a bit more exposure".

"In our last year of sales, from that time to now, we have done extremely well," Miss Smith said.

"We've been absolutely smashing our budgets and it brought a lot of new VIPs into our loyalty program, too."

She said shopping in-store provided "that customer service experience".

"You're also supporting people in business and people in jobs."

Every $30 spent at a participating shop until December 4 will get an entry into the Jazz draw.

French Style owner Regina French said there were also many other benefits to shopping locally.

"We're the businesses that then go on to donate to the local football club, the local schools, the local charities," she said.

"We're the first ones that give back to the community, so if people don't support us, we can't do that."

Buying items such as clothes and shoes in person also meant "something that fits ... you hear of some horror stories where it doesn't".

Mrs French said it was more important than ever to think about the impact of your spend.

"You talk to different businesses and everyone is saying they are affected by the drought."

The Tamworth Business Chamber is running the campaign, a spokeswoman saying: "We need to stand united in calling for our community to shop local, support local first."
