Two early converted short corners in the first half from Callie Michell set Souths onto the back foot.
From there, the side tried desperately to stay in the contest and keep their season alive.
Amber Witney tried to direct her side onto the comeback trail with two goals, while Kaylene Osborne and Maddie Lewin each scored one.

Souths coach Hayden Lewin said his side's poor start ultimately cost them the game.
"The result wasn't what we wanted," Lewin told the Leader.
"It was disappointing as our start was slow and lacked the intensity required to compete properly in first grade."
Despite the poor start to the game, Lewin said he was proud of the fight his side showed after half-time.
"Half-time gave us a chance to really talk about how the game was going and why it was so different to previous weeks," he said.
"The team was challenged to get into the contest more and be stronger and smarter in marking and passing, but also to remember the enjoyment of the previous week and try to bring that back.
"We ended up winning the second half 2-0, but it wasn't enough to overcome the first half."
Lewin said his side was still in the mix to play finals, despite Sunday's loss.
Fortunately results in other games mean that we are still in with a slight chance of claiming fourth spot.
"However we will need to win this weekend and hope results in the other two games go our way."
