The council's planning director Brent McAlister showed off the plans for new upgrade works which include permanent five metre tall trees, lighting and, yes, shade.
Shade and seating were major omissions from the plaza in the eyes of the public, and finally some change is on the way.

All of the steel bollards will be removed along with the potted trees as the council endeavors to add more greenery to the locale.
"They're going to have shade cloth, it is going to have a creeping vine, possibly bougainvillea," Mr McAlister said.
"It will have the mist spray.
"I think they're pretty unique."
The new trees will be partially buried in the ground in plastic vaults to give them a better chance of survival while also reducing the chance of roots damaging underground infrastructure.
Mr McAlister was certain the new pieces would work well with regular events like the country music festival and Fiesta La Peel.
"In fact, during the festival, the biggest complaint is the heat in the Fitzroy plaza," he said.
"You can't just design these places for 10 per cent of time, the festival, fiesta la peel, it has to be okay for the 90 per cent.
"We have talked to the events people, they have no issues." The works should be completed before the 2020 festival.
