Dear Principal
I am a year 6 student at Tamworth Primary School.
I am very concerned about the impact that climate change is having, and will increasing have on or region and the planet.
The current drought and Tamworth's water crisis is likely a result of the 1 degree C of warming that we have experienced so far.
Scientists inform us that we must reduce carbon emissions to stop warming exceeding 1.5 degree C after which our chances of preventing a catastrophe become increasing difficult. Already with the current concentrations of carbon in the atmosphere scientists predict that we can expect a 30% increase of hotter and drier times such as this.
My generation are going to be the most affected by global warming. I feel the need to be doing whatever I can to reduce carbon emissions so we can have a brighter future.
Presently the youth of Tamworth feel helpless and reliant on governments of the world taking action. I want to change that and make them feel that they are part of the solution to the problem.
To do that I want to bring together students who are concerned about climate change to meet regularly to discuss what we can be doing to help reduce carbon emissions. My problem is making contact with those students.
The first meeting I have planned is on this Thursday evening [August 22] at 6pm and then each following Thursday till the 19th of September. I am asking you to help me get in touch with concerned students by advertising my meeting at your school assembly.
Thank you for helping me make contact with fellow students who share my concern.
Yours sincerely
Lucy Lyden
