Coonamble dog attack: Joel Steven Wheelhouse and Paul Anthony Wheelhouse face court after Brendan Clark mauled on property

Joel Steven Wheelhouse faces charges of being the owner of a dog that attacks a person due to owner's reckless act; grievous bodily harm by negligent act; hindering the investigation of a serious indictable offence of another; and being the owner of a dog that attacks a person.

The 20-year-old was charged in July, two days after Paul Anthony Wheelhouse was arrested.

Paul Wheelhouse, the 53-year-old deputy mayor of Coonamble, faces charges of grievous bodily harm by a negligent act; failure to comply with menacing dog control requirements; hindering an investigation into a serious indictable offence; and being the owner of a menacing dog not complying with section 51.

Both men appeared in Coonamble Local Court on Tuesday but have not been required to enter pleas to the charges.

Magistrate George Breton adjourned both cases for four weeks; the men are set to return to court in mid-September.

Paul Wheelhouse's bail was continued in court.

Brendan Clark underwent multiple surgeries in hospital after he was mauled by the dogs on June 21.

The 43-year-old was set upon by two pig-hunting dogs in an attack that later led to his right arm being amputated in Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital.

Clark suffered cuts, bite marks and scratches to his cheeks, left arm and neck in the dog attack.

He was working alone at the time at the property.
