Isabella Wall, Porscha Ring and Abbie Peet qualify to compete at national championships

Abbie Peet, Isabella Wall and Porscha Ring have qualified to compete at the School Sport Australia Track and Field Championships in Darwin next month.

The trio, who all train with coaching supremo Wally Warner, earned their spots on the NSW team with podium finishes at last week's NSW PSSA trial event in Sydney.

Peet was one of the stars of the event winning gold in her 11 years girls multi-class 100m, 200m, 800m, shot put and long jump, and bronze in discus. Competing in the 10 years girls Ring was third in her 200m while Wall finished third in the 11 years 800m and 1500m.

Their talents aren't confined to the track with Wall and Peet, who has mild cerebral palsy, both set to run for NSW at the National All Schools Cross-Country Championships later this month.

It is the second time for both qualifying to run at the nationals, which will be held at Kembla Grange on August 24, after competing at Maleny last year.

Both will go in as good medal chances after winning gold in their respective events at the state championships.

Warner is certainly expecting his charges to do well, and likewise in Darwin.

"I'm a very happy coach to have three going to nationals, and especially to have two going to the cross-country as well," he said.

He said they have been training hard, and noted Ring's improvement.

"She's come along a lot, especially in the 100m and 200m," he said.

Darwin will be her first time competing at the nationals.

"I'm very happy and excited," the Nemingha Year 5 student said.

Especially after her heat run.

"In the heat I didn't go as hard as I could," she said.

"It was bad. I only just scraped into the final."

One of only two runners in the final to use a standing start, she did lose a bit of ground at the start but finished strongly.

Around their races they will have the chance to do a bit of sightseeing around Darwin, and one of the activities Ring is most looking forward to is watching the crocodiles getting fed.

Peet isn't so excited about that but is looking forward to seeing Darwin. She's never been there before.

The Carinya Year 5 student was happy with how she went at the trial event and felt the 800m was probably her best event.

She led pretty much the whole race. At one stage the girl who finished with silver almost caught up to her, but she "kicked again" and pulled away.

The nationals will be held from September 18-23, just a few weeks after the cross-country nationals where Peet will be looking to finish on the podium again.

Last year she won bronze in her individual race, slashing 21 seconds off her time from state in the process, and helped her NSW team win gold in the relay event.

Wall, who is in Year 5 at St Nicholas, also showed she could match it with the fastest distance runners for her age in the country, sprinting home to finish sixth.
