POLICE are investigating the circumstances leading-up to a house fire in Guyra which claimed the life of a 60-year-old man on the weekend.

Just after 4pm on Friday Guyra firefighters were called to the scene on Falconer Street after reports of a shed a light in south of town.
The shed was fully alight once crews got to the scene and after a number of a small of explosions were heard a crew from Armidale was sent to assist.

Firefighters quickly dealt with the fire but, unfortunately, a man living in the structure could not be saved.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted this week to determine cause of death and establish formal identification; however, police are investigating if the body is that of the 60-year-old man who lived in the home.
Inquiries by officers from New England Police District continue, and the cause of the fire is still to be determined.
