Werris Creek lost three-straight games, before edging Gunnedah and then beating Dungowan.
If Narrarbi beat the Roosters at Kooty on Sunday, Werris Creek will finish the regular season in second spot.
If the Roosters defeat Narrabri, the Magpies will finish second if they win their final-round match against Boggabri at the Creek next Saturday.
On Saturday, Werris Creek opened the scoring in the 24th minute when lock Jamie Bailey crashed over from close range, and put their foot down via runaway tries to centre Isaah Millgate (31st minute) and fullback Marty Shaw (37th minute) to lead 16-0 lead at the break.
In the 45th minute, Magpies winger Zac Leonard crossed out wide for the first of his two tries, before Millgate scored his second after combining nicely with his older brother, Harlee - the long-range try converted by the latter: 26-0.
