SPRING Ridge's Wylie Hockey has put in a stellar performance at the recent Interschool Horse Extravaganza at Tamworth's AELEC.

Representing the Shore School, Hockey competed in the one-day event against students aged 12 to 15 in disciplines such as dressage, showjumping and cross country.
However, Hockey's best performance was in the showjumping, which saw him claim an overall ninth-place finish for the Shore School.

Up against a competitive pool of older riders, Hockey used his experiences with the Quirindi Pony Club to help see him over the line.
A keen rugby and cricket player, Hockey's mother Rebecca said finding a balance between sport and school had been a challenge for her son.
"Initially we felt that, particularly this first year, Wylie should concentrate on settling in at Shore," Rebecca said.
"He's had to adjust to a lot of new things this year - moving from the country to the city, boarding life, and even moving from his primary school to a much bigger school at Shore.
"But the school has been very supportive and he's settled in really well."
As well as showjumping, Rebecca said polo and rugby were two of her son's great passions.
"Wylie loves hanging out with his friends and throwing the footy around in the afternoons - he is loving his sport, especially rugby," she said.
Hockey will now look forward to his next show jumping competition at the upcoming Quirindi Agricultural Show.
