THE sound of pounding hooves filled the air at the annual Wean picnic race meeting on Saturday.

Hundreds of racegoers were treated to a stacked five-race card, which saw Gina's Pride, De La Reign, Master Cramsie, About Time and Folkstone take home victories.
Local trainers such as Geoff O'Brien (De La Reign), Gavin Groth (About Time) and Cody Morgan (Folkstone) enjoyed the day, taking home a victory each.

Wean Jockey Club president Les Alker said the annual meeting captured "the essence of picnic racing".
"We had about 17 buses turn up full of spectators for this year's event, which is more than we have ever had," Alker said.
"The essence of picnic racing has always been that it is a social outing for the community.
"I think that was the case again this year."
Adding more colour and atmosphere to the event was the Rock 'N' Roll dress theme, which saw punters don their best Freddie Mecury, and Elvis costumes.
"This year's Rock 'N' Roll theme was really well supported," Alker said.
"It was great to see a lot of people get into the spirit and dress up in their costumes."
Alker said the club would now asses any potential changes for next year's event.
"The thing is, the event is always evolving," he said.
"We are seeing more similar events, such as the Moree picnic races coming up, so we will have to look at what we can improve.
"In the coming weeks, the committee will sit down and have a wash up meeting, discuss what worked, what can be improved and go from there."
