There was a bloody good spread put on at the Tamworth Blood Service on Thursday morning as the local team, and local donors, celebrated the World's Biggest Morning Tea.

The nationwide event is held every year on behalf of the Cancer Council to "help raise funds for those impacted by cancer", and it was a case of hitting two birds with one stone at the Blood Service according to spokesperson Janine Dietrich.

"People could come out and donate twice to the same cause today," she said.
"While we were collecting money donations for morning tea, over 34 per cent of all product collected by the Blood Service goes to cancer patients - it was a win win for the Cancer Council and for those people fighting cancer."
As the service opened the doors at 11am, an army of volunteers marched in armed with an arsenal of baked goods, coffee and tea, a sight which was very welcoming to the other volunteers who were lining up to donate blood.
"Tamworth needs to fill 300 appointments a week just to keep up with demand - we always need more donors," Ms Dietrich said
