Nundle man who let fiancee rot to death Neil Douglas Morris told to expect prison

Neil Douglas Morris, 60, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter after he left his morbidly obese fiancee in a recliner without food or water for 72 hours.

He has remained on bail, but his lawyer was told to expect an end to that on Monday in Tamworth District Court.

"That's not realistically a situation that's expected to continue is it?" Judge Jeffery McLennan said.

"Mr Morris should be realistic and prepare himself to go into custody on Friday, don't you think?"

The offender has been preparing for a prison sentence, the court heard.

Police facts in the matter are still being finalised, the court heard, after Morris pleaded guilty to manslaughter in February.

The details of the victim's death are graphic. Police facts show that a community nurse visited the couple's home in Nundle in July, 2017.

The 75-year-old victim was found slumped in an armchair. She was described as having "sunken eyes" and was unable to speak.

The woman sat in her own bodily fluids with "small, midge-like insects" crawling over her body, facts showed.

Morris told paramedics his partner of 15 years had lost the strength to live three weeks earlier after finalising her will.

When the ambulance took her to hospital, the victim believed it was 1974.

A coroner's report showed the rotted lesion that caused her death was probably present for months.

Morris accepted he should not have let his fiancee sit in the chair without food or drink for three days but had planned to call for help the next day if she didn't get any better.

Judge Jeffery McLennan will sentence Morris on Friday.
