THE New England region got a taste of a frosty few days ahead on Thursday with some icy temperatures touching towns in the area.

According to Weatherzone, Tamworth had its coldest May morning in 11 years with -1.1 degrees recorded at the airport at 5.30am.
While the central and southern regions are bracing for snow tomorrow, and across the weekend, meteorologists have said the north will largely miss out due to dry conditions.

"The temperatures are favourable," Weatherzone meteorologist Craig McIntosh said.
"But the precipitation is not really there.
"There's a chance some of the highest peaks around Armidale and Guyra might get something."
While the region's toboggans will probably remain in storage, the winter woolies will definitely get a work-out over the weekend with some freezing temps tipped.
"It's very likely for those places higher than Tamworth in the Northern Tablelands to likely go into the negatives for the weekend mornings," Mr McIntosh said.
"The minus one predicted for Sunday could be colder than that.
"The front is pushing much further north, bringing a pool of very cold air with it.
"Once the winds settle, the coldest day probably so far this year, is Sunday."
Two cold fronts in the space of three days are responsible for sending cold winds across south-eastern and central Australia, leading to the early-season cold snap.
The second front will deliver snow to the ranges in Victoria, ACT and NSW, potentially as far north as the NSW central and northern ranges.
