Snappers are encouraged to capture the night sky through their lenses, the competition was inspired by local astronomers who felt the night sky is overlooked by many.
The idea is to celebrate the wonder in the sky right here in town, Craige Watson from the Tamworth Regional Astronomy Club said.
"With the continual advancement in equipment and technology in capturing the night sky, amateur observers and artists alike are able to produce amazing images from light-polluted towns and cities," he said.

The competition has five categories from deep space telescope images, wide-field camera images, solar system nightscapes and comets plus a junior section for those under 18.
The winners will have their work presented at an exhibition at Tamworth Regional Gallery later this year.
