A POLICE investigation is under way to try and determine how a man suffered serious head injuries in Tamworth.

A passerby found the 23-year-old injured in Bridge Street late on Saturday night.
Paramedics were alerted and the 23-year-old man was taken to Tamworth hospital in a serious condition.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked and later airlifted the man to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle in a serious condition.
Tamworth police said the man was found about midnight.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the man's injuries with police trying to determine how he suffered them.
Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and contact Tamworth police on 6768 2999.
Meanwhile, police said a paraglider has been taken to hospital after an accident at the state of origin paragliding competition near Manilla.
The man was competing when he fell and suffered suspected back injuries.
Police were called and helped paramedics who took the man to hospital for treatment.
