Kimba Larvay was refused bail in an out-of-sessions bail hearing in Tamworth Local Court on four charges after police swooped on him in the early hours of Thursday.
The Tamworth Target Action Group (TAG) arrested Larvay in a car stop on the outskirts of Tamworth in a coordinated operation.
He was subsequently charged with drive conveyance taken without consent; receive or dispose of stolen property; drive while disqualified; and larceny.
Larvay was refused bail and ordered to remain in custody until next week.
He's accused of travelling in a brand new, stolen Mercedes Benz coupe which was taken from a holding yard in Dampier Street in Taminda at the weekend.
The car, which is estimated to be worth $100,000, sparked a major police manhunt involving Oxley police, detectives, TAG, highway patrol and general duties officers, before investigators tracked it from Tamworth to Muswellbrook.
On Wednesday, Oxley police, backed by their Hunter Valley counterparts, raided a Muswellbrook home where the car and other goods were seized.
Investigators are currently reviewing some of the evidence seized to establish if any other person aided or abetted the people involved in these offences, and they too will face prosecution for any offence committed.
- Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy
"The car along with what we allege is stolen property has been seized and is the subject of further forensic examination," Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy said.
"Investigations are continuing with further arrests pending.
