A nine-year old St Joseph's school student shocked his parents on Monday after arriving home from school with thousands of dollars worth of drugs.

The student found the container, believed to contain an estimated five grams of ice, in the playground of his Tamworth school on Monday morning, and put it in his bag before taking it home that afternoon.
His mother said the student "thought it was salt, but thought it looked a bit funny."
"My son could have eaten some and died - who knows how many kids could have died - it was very scary," she said.
"We are lucky he is well educated on drugs, but never expected anything like this to happen."

The mother immediately notified Oxley police, who took a statement from the student, and are investigating how the drugs came to be in the school grounds.
On Sunday night, a man was arrested outside the school and charged with drug offences, but has not been charged in relation to this incident.
On Tuesday, St Joseph's principal Katie Hanes wrote a letter to inform parents of the incidents.
The letter stated that "it is alleged that the person who was arrested threw the container into the school grounds unbeknownst to police."
"The school grounds have been thoroughly searched by both staff and police officers. The police have assured me it was an unfortunate incident which was beyond anyone's control."
Ms Hanes said she had never seen an incident like this in her 30-year career.
"It was quite disturbing for me as principal, because the safety of students is our highest priority," she said.
"We are discussing what the next step is in regards to drug awareness and safety going forward."
Oxley Police were contacted on Thursday but were unavailable for comment. The drugs were seized and will undergo forensic examination.
