THE rapid pace at which the new Werris Creek rail freight hub has been constructed has led to questions about what is holding up Tamworth's long touted intermodal hub.

Since the project was given $7.4 million by the state government in late 2017, it has stalled multiple times in what Tamworth Regional Council mayor Col Murray called "democracy gone mad".
However, Cr Murray recently assured the business community the project was finally on track.
"I've just had a conversation with the deputy secretary from the Department of Premier and Cabinet, he assures me that the funding deed will be signed with the Country Rail network in the next few days," Cr Murray said.
"He's been instructed by the Premier to expedite the project.
"I think we need to pass over what's happened in the past and focus on the future."

With the Werris Creek and Tamworth intermodal hubs less than 50 kilometres from each other, some have questioned whether the two facilities will be viable.
However, Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said "absolutely there's room for two".
Mr Anderson was confident the "rock-solid project" was "progressing well".
"I understand they have signed the documents they need to," he said.
"I'm also very keen to see it progress, it's been a long time coming.
"It's taxpayers' dollars at work and they do need to be spent wisely, but let's get that project moving."
