The second annual Tamworth Trail Blazer has recorded a huge influx of female athletes as registrations continue to run through the door for Sunday's event.

Billed as "the place fun goes to die" the ultra event will see runners take on Flagstaff Mountain and the surrounding Wentworth Mounds over three distances - 15km, 30km and 45km with the latter distance setting themselves up for 2700m of climbs.
Organiser Warren Ansell has been thrilled to see registration numbers already eclipse last year's event which saw 78 entrants.

"We already have 80, and are taking entries through to the day," he said.
"We have more females than males in the 15km which is great to see, and the weather looks good with a dry 29 degrees forecast."

On Saturday the team will be at the Oxley Lookout taking registrations and giving briefings on the course from 3-5pm.
Last year the winner of the 45km event finished in just over six hours.
The Trail Blazer starts at 8am on Sunday.
