But 10-year-old Lily Androutsos brushed aside any hint of nervousness as she parted ways with her long locks.
She had unwavering courage in her conviction.

Having a grandmother and grandfather affected by cancer, Lily knew she had to do something.
"I'm shaving my hair for cancer research because my pop and my nan both had cancer," she said.
"I want to have a cure for all cancers so no one can die or suffer."
The Hallsville girl raised more than $4500 for her head-shave which will be donated to the Love Your Sister charity which pledges money to "vanquishing all cancers".
Only a touch of fear crept-in when she saw her little brother armed with scissors ready to lop off one of her braids.
Parents George and Kristy were very proud of their daughter who has bugged them for a head-shaving fundraiser for many months.
"She's just does well, she gets her mind set and she just wants to do it and we'll just support her," George said.
