RURAL crime detectives are on the hunt for 70 sheep believed to have been stolen from a property west of Uralla.

The missing sheep were part of a mob of 798 and have disappeared since December last year.
Purchased from two different mobs, the first have blue star brand on their back and an ear mark of a half penny out of the top of the nearside ear, with a key way out of the point of the ear.
The second mob have an upside down J out of the bottom of the offside ear.
With a distinctive slash out of the top and bottom of the offside ear, the Merino wethers were due to be sheared in June.
Inverell's New England Rural Crime Prevention Team are investigating the disappearance from the Balala property.

Investigators want to talk to anyone with information about the missing sheep or any person who has been seen acting suspiciously in or around Balala Road or Kingstown Road at Balala.
The incident renewed calls for farmers to report stock theft promptly, even if it's just small numbers.
The missing sheep are fitted with NLIS tags with the PIC numbers NF021072, NF020643 and NJ022902.
