A TREE branch has fallen on a man's head while he was doing fire containment work at Ben Halls Gap.

Westpac Rescue Helicopter crews have flown a 58-year-old male to Tamworth Hospital suffering neck and shoulder injuries.
It's reported the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident which saved him from further serious injury.

The man is believed to have been transported in a stable condition to Tamworth hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
The helicopter was likely called to the remote location as it would have been difficult for NSW Ambulance paramedics to access.
