THE air conditioning units of Tamworth might have been given a rest with the region welcoming the coolest weekend of the entire summer.

The thermometers in Tamworth topped-out at 28.6 degrees which was the coolest day in the city since December 23 when it only got to a relatively brisk 27.6 degrees.
The late-summer chill on Saturday carried over in to Sunday with temperatures maxing-out at 28, according to Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

The change was brought in by strong east south-easterly winds which blocked the typical warming winds blowing in from the west.
The winds meant it felt more like 19 degrees outside by the BOM's measure.
It sees out a summer which has been, at times, historically hot with top temperatures averaging 3.6 degrees warmer than the long-term mean.
This year was welcomed the city's hottest recorded January following on from 2018 being the hottest ever year in Tamworth.
Tamworth is tipped to stay in the low-30s for the rest of the week, however there is a very low chance of any rain falling in the coming days.
