The 43-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the blue Holden Commodore, has been flown to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital for specialist treatment.
The woman suffered several injuries to her hip, arm, pelvis and chest. She was in intensive care in Tamworth hospital on Wednesday before the Newcastle-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with the John Hunter medical retrieval team on board, flew her on Wednesday night.
Police have called for public help as they investigate the moments leading up to the crash on Coonabarabran Road, near Waverly Road, at Caroona on Tuesday night.
The Commodore left the road and struck a tree, trapping the woman and injuring the driver, a 44-year-old man.
He was taken by ambulance to Tamworth hospital.

A WOMAN was in intensive care in Tamworth hospital on Wednesday after the car she was a passenger in slammed into a tree.
The woman, believed to be 43, was in a serious condition after being trapped in the crash, which occurred about 11.45pm on Tuesday at Caroona.
Police believe the 2004 blue Holden Commodore sedan left Coonabarabran Road, near Waverly Road, and struck a tree.
Eight ambulances plus the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were deployed to help the woman, who had to be freed from the wreckage after she suffered multiple injuries to her hip, pelvis, arm and chest.

She was airlifted by the chopper to Tamworth and placed into intensive care, where she remained.
The male driver, believed to be 44, was taken by ambulance to Tamworth hospital, suffering from neck, back and shoulder pain. He was believed to be in a stable condition.
Oxley Inspector Michael Wurth said the circumstances in the lead-up to the crash, and where the occupants had been, were being investigated.
“Police would appeal to the public for anyone who has information that might be valuable to us in this investigation to come forward,” he said.
