A MAN has been granted bail in court accused of trying to groom a child in a Glen Innes park on the weekend.

The 61-year-old man is alleged to have approached an 11-year-old boy in a park on East Avenue about 1.30pm on Australia Day.
Police will allege the man made a number of inappropriate comments to the young boy, who ran home and alerted his mother.
The mother alerted police, who launched an investigation. Officers went to the park a short time later where they arrested a 61-year-old man.

He was taken to Glen Innes Police Station and questioned before being charged with attempting to procure a child under 14 and possession of a prohibited drug which officers allege is cannabis.
The man was denied bail by police and spent the night in custody before fronting an out-of-sessions bail hearing on Sunday morning in Armidale Local Court.
He was granted conditional release to reappear in Glen Innes Local Court on January 30.
