Looking to carry on from an impressive victory over West Pennant Hills on Monday, the local under-14 side looked secure victory over an Invitational XI.
Winning the toss and batting first, Tamworth’s innings started sluggishly, losing their first wicket with just three runs on the board.
However, contributions from the side’s middle order helped steady the ship before an 84-run partnership between Murphy (73) and Angus Gale (29 not out) saw the side post a formidable 8-232.

Tamworth co-coach Barry Pratten said Murphy’s knock was “a brilliant 73”.
“It was a very good result for our side,” Pratten said.
“I was a little concerned at the half way mark when we were about five-wickets down, but our middle order was good again.
“Sam and the guys around him batted beautifully, took the game deep into the final overs and really helped us set a formidable total.”
Gunnedah’s Henry Johns was the best of the Invitational side’s bowlers claiming 4-53.
Johns went on to be a shining light for his side with the bat top scoring with 43 as his side went on to eventually be dismissed for 123.
“I think Henry Johns deserves a lot of applause for his efforts,” Pratten said.
“He really put in for his side and performed beautifully.
“I think he’s a fine young cricketer.”
Murphy continued his day out for Tamworth, chiming in with 3-15 with the ball, while Angus Gale claimed 2-17.
“We were a lot sharper with the ball today than on Monday,” Pratten said.
“In terms of no balls and wides we were far more disciplined.
“We did let through a few byes but that is something we will work on as the carnival goes.
“As a side, we have some tough matches coming up and you can’t afford to give away too many extras.”
Tamworth’s next clash will be its toughest of the carnival so far, as it meets the undefeated Gold Coast team.
“I think virtually every game for us from here on out will be challenging,” Pratten said.
“Gold Coast has got a lot of talented players so we will need to be on our game.
“It will take a complete effort.”
Pratten said batting would be key to securing victory against their undefeated opponents.
“We will have to bat well,” he said.
“Our top order hasn’t really got going just yet so we will be looking to one of them to bat around.
