A MOTORBIKE rider has been killed in a crash with a road sign near Tamworth.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Hanging Rock Road near Nundle, about 60km from Tamworth, shortly before 1pm on Tuesday.
Oxley police confirmed the male rider, believed to be a 26-year-old man, died at the scene. No one else was injured, police said.
Officers believe the man was riding with another motorcyclist at the the time when, for reasons unknown, his bike lost control, left the road and struck a road sign.
Police and paramedics were alerted and rushed to the area but the man died at the scene.

Emergency services remained at the scene of the crash for much of the afternoon on Tuesday as forensic investigators and detectives examined the road site.
The road was closed for a short time to allow investigators to piece together the cause of the crash, before stop/start traffic controls were put in place.
A report will now be prepared for the information of the coroner.
