WHILE not coming home with a winner, Gavin Groth is taking a lot of positives from Tuesday’s Inverell Cup day.

The Gunnedah trainer fielded five horses in the eight-race card with Jazzee Nicc the only runner to claim a place finishing second in race six.
“It was one of those days I guess, we couldn’t buy a winner on Tuesday,” Groth said.
“However, I think it was a pretty pleasing day despite not having a winner.
“I did expect them all to be in amongst the placings in their races and I’m a big believer in as long as the horse runs to it’s full potential I’m happy.”
Groth said he was “particularly happy” with the performance of Jazzee Nicc, who was just half a length shy of defeating Bullseye Score.
“Jazzee was only second up after an eight-month lay off,” he said.
“To finish second the way it did was certainly pleasing.”

Groth’s runners will now turn their attention to upcoming meetings at Glen Innes and Gunnedah.
“To be honest, I’m planning on giving the upcoming Tamworth meeting a miss,” he said.
“The heat and travel have taken it out of me lately so I can’t imagine the toll it would be taking on the horses.
“Instead we will be looking at spreading the ones that ran in Inverell and Bring The Joy across the meetings at Glen Innes and Gunnedah.”
Bring the Joy has enjoyed a recent purple patch of form winning two of its last three races.
“Those two were wins were pretty impressive and it was pretty unlucky to miss out in its run before that.”
When asked if Bring the Joy was a chance to run in the Glen Innes Cup Groth said it was “unlikely”.
“There’s a race at Gunnedah that Bring the Joy is lined up for,” Groth said.
“If I were to have something in the Cup it would be either Red Liberty or Malzoom.
“Given that both the meetings are so close together we will be nominating most of them for both.
“However, after Bring the Joy’s next race I’d say it will be given a well deserved rest.”
- The Glen Innes Cup meeting will be held on January 12 while Gunnedah’s next meeting will be on January 15.
