POLICE have laid a new charge against a man accused of dangerous driving that caused a serious crash in Tamworth.

Wayne Ashley Philp, 48, appeared in Tamworth Local Court where magistrate Julie Soars was told a charge of negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm had been laid.
He was charged by officers following investigations into the April 20 head-on crash on Scott Road in Tamworth, that seriously injured a woman.
DPP solicitor Cat McKay said a charge of grievous bodily harm by an unlawful act was to be withdrawn.
“Sequence four is a fresh charge which is to replace sequence three,” she told the court.
Philp is accused of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, driving while suspended and now negligent driving.
He is yet to enter pleas.
The DPP was given nine weeks for charge certification which will include a case conference with defence Legal Aid solicitor Wendy McAuliffe in late-January.

Ms Soars adjourned the case to February.
“He’s on bail, so bail to continue,” she said.
Police allege Philp was driving a Nissan X-trail when it collided head-on with an oncoming Holden Cruz.
A 65-year-old woman, who was behind the wheel of the Cruz, was hospitalised with serious abdominal and lower leg injuries after the head-on.
Dramatic dashcam footage, captured by a camera in the car travelling in front of the Holden Cruz, showed a Nissan X-trail in the parking lane on the wrong side of Scott Road, just before it collides with the Cruz.
