Old Boys had their run of fourth straight premierships snapped when they lost to Souths in last year’s grand final, while Souths captured the one-day title last month that Old Boys won last season. The T20 crown is the one title Old Boys still hold.
Saturday was the first of five straight weeks of T20 action, with the final on February 1.
After winning the toss and batting, Souths were dismissed for 95 in the 17th over.

Ryan Rogers claimed 2-7 off 2.2 overs, while Troy Sands and Jack Richard both grabbed two wickets.
Souths No.9 Jamie Hammond (18) top-scored.
Before the start of their innings, stand-in Old Boys captain Simon Norvill told his players they should only need 15 overs to get the runs. With Norvill (35) and Mitchell Swain (17) combining for a quick 58-run opening stand, they passed Souths’ total in 11 overs.
Norvill said: “It was good for us to start the T20 part of the competition well. And the way the ladder was situated, it was a timely win for us. So hopefully we can keep it going.”
Old Boys have jumped to third on the ladder, while Souths have dropped to fourth.
